Summary:

As a Highway Maintenance Crew Leader, you will be responsible for performing maintenance operations and a variety of tasks related to routine asset maintenance activities. Our Highway Maintenance Crew Leader plays a vital role in ensuring the services we provide meet high-quality standards set forth by our clients while pursuing a rewarding career in the asset maintenance industry.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities may include, but are not limited to:

​

  • Provide 24-hour Emergency Response: Must be available to respond within 1 hour of notification, secure and relieve emergency personnel of temporary traffic control (TTC) functions within fifteen (15) minutes of arriving onsite.

  • Must live in or near Okeechobee County and be available for 24-Hour On-call Duties

  • Landscape Area Maintenance: Weed Control, Small Machine Mowing

  • Tree Trimming and Removal

  • Clean Drainage Structures

  • Repair or Replace Storm Drains, Side Drains, Cross Drains

  • Roadside Litter Removal and Manual Sweeping

  • Repairing Non-Paved Shoulders, Front Slopes, and Roadside Ditches

  • Guardrail Repair

  • Bridge Maintenance and Repair

  • Asphalt Repair

  • Sodding

  • Concrete Repair

  • Delineator Replacement and Installation

  • Signs Repairs and Installation

  • Fence Repair

  • Graffiti Removal

  • Pipe Lining

  • Traffic Control Services

  • Other Miscellaneous Routine Maintenance, as needed.

​Essential Key Functions & Responsibilities:

​

  • Lead by example, manage and supervise AIMM’s Highway Maintenance Technicians team members while following all AIMM’s policies and commitment to a safe, respectful, and lawful workplace.

  • Collaborate and lead day-to-day activities of Field Crews as directed.

  • Plan and Direct day-to-day activities of Field Crews in the absence of a supervisor.

  • Must be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, with the required 24-hour availability for on-call and emergency call-back duties, availability to a fluctuating work schedule, which may vary depending on our client’s needs and the task at hand, while maintaining a good attendance record, by being responsible and committed to coming to work daily.

  • Demonstrate to be knowledgeable of highway maintenance principles and practices while demonstrating excellent leadership, management, planning, and administration experience. 

  • Performing typical roadway maintenance activities, including the use of tools and operation of equipment supplied by AIMM and other equipment utilized in performing the activities defined in the scope of work, while performing the day-to-day activities of Field Crews, as directed by supervisor or designee. Achieve and maintain all clients’ rating program score requirements. Employees must adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and any AIMM Company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain highway asset condition to required performance, procedural, regulatory, and legal standards, as applicable. 

  • Develop, foster, and maintain healthy working relationships with clients and other interfacing agencies. 

  • Complete Daily Work Reports, Timesheets, Weekly Roadside Inspection Reports, and any other report required by AIMM and our clients in a format acceptable to AIMM and our clients in a timely manner.

  • Record employees’ work hours daily using our payroll online platform, iSolved Highflyer, or any other future method, facilitating and capturing precise team operations productivity while ensuring accurate timekeeping and tracking best practices.

  • Ensure, follow, and enforce the AIMM Policies and Safety protocols by all team members, including work zone traffic control according to FDOT Design Standards 600 series, while ensuring the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is used at all times.

    • Ensure compliance with all company policies, processes, procedures, and contract requirements. 

    • AIMM provides its employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the company's expense, except for Steel-Toe Boots, which MUST be worn at all times, regardless of the presence of a hazard, and meet OSHA requirements. They must have a leather upper, oil-resistant and non-skid soles, and comply with ASTM 2413-05 with an impact resistance rating of 75 and a compression resistance rating of 75. 

      • Per OSHA General Requirements [1910.132(h)(2)], AIMM is not required to pay for non-specialty safety-toe protective footwear, including steel-toe boots and non-specialty prescription safety eyewear, as AIMM permits such items to be worn off the job site for personal use.

      • AIMM employees are responsible for purchasing their own steel-toe boots or prescription safety eyewear.

  •  Ensure that company vehicles and equipment being utilized are cleaned and maintained properly on a regular basis.

    •  Manage and maintain inventory of any equipment, materials, stockpiles, etc.

    • Company vehicle usage is for company-related business purposes only, as approved and directed by upper management. It will only be authorized to be parked after business hours at our client’s premises.    

    • Please ensure your safety, the safety of your team, and the traveling public by enforcing using common sense by all team members while following safe driving practices such as staying focused while driving any company vehicles, avoiding distractions, staying awake/alert, and never use a phone or any other electronic devices while driving or while being a front seat passenger/ co-pilot, never drive a company vehicle under the influence of any drugs/alcohol or any prescribed medications that prohibit driving, never smoke/vape inside a company vehicle, use a seatbelt at all times, avoid going over the legal speed limit, obey all traffic laws, traffic signals, traffic signs, etc.  

  • Complete any training courses successfully within the established time frame.

  • Keep open communication with your superiors. Be vigilant, prevent, and respond to any harassment and bullying among employees while following AIMM’s policies and protocols. Immediately report any issues to Human Resources, especially if an employee is engaged in high-risk behaviors. AIMM provides a safe workplace for all employees, does not tolerate any type of workplace violence committed by or against employees, and will actively intervene at any indication of a possibly hostile or violent situation.

  • Attend all required client or company meetings, as applicable. 

  • Travel is not anticipated but may be required up to 5%, as you may occasionally be required to travel to various project locations, AIMM’s corporate meetings, or other events on an as-needed basis. 

  • The Company will provide transportation within the project’s limits from a designated location.

  • Perform all other duties as prescribed by management.

Experience and Minimum Qualifications.

​

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to plan and monitor the work activities of field personnel, providing highway construction and/or maintenance activities.

  • Ability to assume the supervisor’s responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.

  • Ability to complete Daily Work Reports, Timesheets, Weekly Roadside Inspection Reports, and any other report required by AIMM and our clients in a format acceptable to AIMM and our clients in a timely manner.   

  • Working knowledge of the operation, practices, materials, maintenance, and repair of equipment supplied by our clients and AIMM utilized in performing the activities defined in the scope of work.

  • Working knowledge of typical roadway maintenance activities, including the use of tools and operation of equipment, utilized in performing the activities defined in the scope of work while performing the day-to-day activities of Field Crews, as directed by our clients and AIMM superiors.

  • Working knowledge of the Department of Transportation Standard Plans for Road and Bridge Construction and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other traffic control procedures for work zones.

  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, being exposed to a loud work environment with moderate to high noise levels, being in high places or confined spaces, driving, standing and walking for extended periods of time, frequently on uneven ground, while being able to lift up to, but not limited to, 50 lbs., bend, carry, climb, grasp, kneel, lift, pull, push, sit, squat, reach overhead, stand, and twist.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, and must be responsible and committed to coming to work daily.

  • Ability to drive company trucks. (No CDL license is required, but it is preferred).

  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and written in English while demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A Florida Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator’s license with the categories of licensure in Right-of-Way Pest Control and Aquatic Pest Control is preferred (training may be provided).

  • The position requires an FDOT-approved temporary Traffic Control (TTC): intermediate; target 90 days; FDOT TTC Advanced preferred (training may be provided).

  • Ability to complete any company training, including but not limited to:

    • FDOT Approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC): Intermediate Course

    • FDOT Approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC): Advanced Course.

    • Emergency/Incident Response Training

    • MRP Training

    • Florida Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator’s license with the categories of licensure in Right-of-Way Pest Control and Aquatic Pest Control.

    • Geo-coordinates and e-maintenance Training

    • OSHA compliance training

    • Python Patrol Training

    • Confined Space and Erosion Control

    • OnTrack Contractor Roadway Worker Training Course for South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) Railway

    • On-Track Contractor Roadway Worker Training Course for FEC Railway

    • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) Training

Hiring Requirements: 

​

Must be able to meet the following driver guidelines:

  • For drivers 23 years old and older: No more than 2 moving violations, 1 at-fault accident; or no more than 1 at-fault and 1 moving violation within the last three years.

  • Drivers 70 years old and older must provide a medical certificate.

  • No driver may have any major convictions within the last five-year period.

  • For any vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License: Drivers must have a minimum of 1 year with appropriate CDL and experience driving similar vehicles to those scheduled.

  • Drivers must have a valid driver's license for at least 2 years from the date of issue.
