Summary

As the Director of Operations at AIMM, you will have the unique opportunity to develop new business, optimize long-term projects, and ensure the efficiency of operations, project managers, processes, and safety. Essential Key Functions & Responsibilities:

• Optimize operations for long-term, complex highway O&M projects to ensure profitability, timely performance, customer retention, and satisfaction.
• Create and implement best practices, processes, and strategies to enhance operations, projects, and personnel while ensuring quality and customer retention.
• Ensure all projects are executed according to contract specifications, within budget, on schedule, and to customer satisfaction, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
• Prepare and deliver accurate, timely reports and multi-year schedules.
• Train, develop, and mentor Project Managers and subordinates to achieve efficient and effective operations and overcome operational challenges.

• Demonstrate proficient knowledge and applied practical expertise in highway operations & maintenance, government regulations, and the local market.
• Achieve growth and profitability through effective client relationships, retention, project renewals, and new business development.
• Research, analyze, and stay ahead of market trends, identifying customer needs, new opportunities, pricing, and competitors.
• Collaborate with the Business Development Team to prepare successful estimates, proposals, and contract negotiations.
• Maintain and improve relationships with customers to ensure continued work and project renewals.
• Network and represent the company at professional networking opportunities.
• Manage all financial aspects using best practices, including budgets, schedules, reports, forecasting, P&L, cost controls, resources, assets, and expenses.
• Track performance and implement long-term corrective actions to increase revenue and profitability.
• Manage, train, and mentor high-performing, results-oriented Project Managers and subordinates focused on profitability, optimizing projects, safety, and customer satisfaction.

• Promptly investigate and resolve any conflicts and customer complaints professionally.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with senior management and other departments.
• Provide structure, support, administrative systems, and methodologies to meet project contract obligations in relation to Infrastructure quality, safety, contractor agreements, procurement, cost control, scheduling, and estimating management processes and procedures.
• Proactively respond to issues that impact contract requirements and facilitate solutions in a timely manner; share methodologies that will bring about improvements systemically.
• Organize, direct, manage and coordinate the project team members to build teamwork and ensure high performance within asset operations & maintenance.
• Drives the company values and ensures the values are incorporated into the development, management, and performance of the team. Seeks to develop employees professionally to include safety, quality, customer service, and general business proficiency.
• Comply with Company Risk Management, Quality Assurance, and Safety programs, policies, systems, and procedures including federal, state, and local legislations and statutory.
• Establish and maintain effective relations with the Client, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Oversee planning, budgeting, cost control and financial management to optimize cost/benefit. Monitor financial performance, conduct financial analysis, and prepare performance information and recommendations for incorporation into the periodic reports to management. Monitor contract and project compliance with the company’s policies and procedures in relation to legal, financial, safety, and administration matters.
• Provide input into the development, review, negotiation, and implementation of subcontractor and supplier agreements to gain the best possible return for the contract. Establish and report appropriate metrics for measuring contract performance.
• Promotes a positive safety culture in the workplace through personal example and by requiring full compliance with all safety and company policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
• Develop and maintain a relationship with the customer that reflects a partnership approach and demonstrates a sound understanding of the customer’s needs. Develop a customer service culture throughout the project. Effectively resolve the client's problems and concerns.
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements to avoid legal challenges. Contribute positively to a diverse, inclusive, and fair work environment free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment. Carry out all duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
• Monitors rehabilitation activities to ensure that the project's goals or objectives are accomplished, including O&M manual development, design review, planning, and facility/system acceptance following renewal/rehabilitation.
• This position requires the candidate to work on multiple projects within Florida at a time, with an expected approximate time of 60% or more in the field. Visiting projects in your Region will require travel and may require overnight stays depending on the distance and needs of the project, work schedule, and client’s requests. While on approved travel, AIMM will provide a per diem allowance to cover any meal expenses if the employee stays overnight and covers hotel lodging expenses.
• AMM provides its employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), at the company's expense, except for steel-toe boots, which MUST be worn at all times, regardless of the presence of a hazard, and meet OSHA requirements; must have a leather upper, must have oil resistant and non-skid soles, and must comply with ASTM 2413-05 with an impact resistance rating of 75 and a compression resistance rating of 75.

           > Per OSHA General Requirements [1910.132(h)(2)], AIMM is not required to pay for non-specialty safety-toe protective footwear,                     including steel-toe boots and non-specialty prescription safety eyewear, as AIMM permits such items to be worn off the job site for                     personal use.

           > AIMM employees are responsible for purchasing steel-toe boots or prescription safety eyewear.

• Must be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, with the required 24-hour availability for on-call and emergency call-back duties, availability to a fluctuating work schedule, which may vary depending on our client’s needs and the task at hand, while maintaining a good attendance record, by being responsible and committed to coming to work daily.

• Record employees’ work hours daily, using our payroll online platform, facilitating and capturing the team’s operations productivity while ensuring accurate timekeeping and tracking best practices.
• Attending all required client or company meetings, as applicable.
• Perform all other duties as instructed by management.

 

Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in business administration or related education, preferred;

  • Minimum of 2 years of administration experience, preferably experience in maintenance management and inspections, public administration and safety industry or public works, familiarity with state agencies’ permits inspections, and field operations experience in the construction, infrastructure, asset maintenance, or transportation industries preferred;

  • Must become Intermediate MOT (maintenance of traffic) certified within 90 days after acceptance of employment, paid by AIMM.

 

Knowledge Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

• Proven experience in operations management, preferably within the highway operations & maintenance industry.
• Strong knowledge of FDOT regulations and requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of repairs, operations, maintenance, and asset management of transportation infrastructure.
• Experience with structures and project management concepts, related processes, principles, and their application. Must be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment. Must be able to negotiate, coordinate, and plan effectively. A well-organized, self-directed individual with the ability to provide strong leadership, possess the ability to manage and organize multiple priorities, maintain a significant customer focus, and have a positive customer service attitude. Proficiency with MS Office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and other computer programs, as needed.
• This position requires a highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability. Must have the ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and adjust to avoid loss, injury, or accident.
• Must be able to communicate with co-workers’ safety instructions.
• Must be able to think clearly and focus on your safety in your immediate surroundings while using tools and equipment, driving, or operating equipment. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the task ahead. As a Director of Operations, you are required to lead by example, encourage co-workers and supervised employees to use PPE correctly, follow proper safety rules of conduct, and take appropriate corrective actions, including the initiation of disciplinary action to enforce the use and observance of PPE, and safety rules within your area of supervised responsibility.
• Must be willing and able to meet any specific project contractual obligation. Must be willing and able to pass Advanced DOT training (or MOT if applicable).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The Director of Operations’ fieldwork tasks will be outdoors in extreme weather, being exposed to a loud work environment with moderate to high noise levels, in high places or confined spaces, and working over and around water. Drive, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, frequently on uneven ground, while being able to lift up to, but not limited to, 50 lbs., bend, carry, climb, grasp, kneel, lift, pull, push, sit, squat, reach overhead, stand, and twist. Some tasks for a Director of Operations may be performed remotely, such as being exposed to prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Education, Experience and Minimal Qualifications Required

This position requires some education. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in business administration or related education preferred, or five years equivalent industry experience in Transportation / Road asset management experience, particularly Operations, Maintenance, & Repairs, is highly desired and a plus to a candidate) Professional Engineering License is highly desired. Five to ten years of industry experience; previous facility management or supervisory experience required. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.

• No driver may have any major convictions within the last five-year period.
• For any vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License: Drivers must have a minimum of 1 year with appropriate CDL and experience driving similar vehicles to those scheduled.
• Drivers must have a valid driver's license for at least 2 years from the date of issue.
